Soil Stabilization Solutions to Ensure Successful Construction

Austin’s unique geology includes heavy clays with high shrink-swell potential. These soils can wreak havoc on residential and commercial foundations alike. Our chemical soil injection process reduces moisture-driven movement and eliminates the costly delays, repairs, and warranty claims that follow.

Universal Injections partners with construction professionals at every stage, delivering pre-construction mitigation services that support successful builds and long-term value. No matter the project size or soil profile, we always bring the same expertise and attention to detail.

PATH OF PHYSICOCHEMICAL INTERACTIONS FOR THE IONIC STABLIZATION PROCESS

Machine in-situ mitigation

  • -Injection-enabled equipment is mobilized on-site.
  • -Water connections and pumps are secured.
  • -Liquid agents are injected under the future foundation (plus a 5' over-build) using high-pressure water, pausing at intervals to a 10' depth.

Physicochemical Rendering

  • -Stabilizing agents create an ionic environment and alter the clay's lattice structure.
  • -Liquid solution activates organic sulfonic acid (RSO3).
  • -The reaction separates amorphous silicon from aluminum in clay sheets.

Ionic Cation Exchange

  • -Clay lattice modifications trigger electrostatic attraction and cation exchange.
  • -As amorphous silicon detaches, ionic charge drops, releasing water from clay sheets.

Particle Flocculation

  • -Removing ionic attraction to water expels it from clay, causing flocculation.
  • -Flocculated particles are extracted, settling in porous subsurface or with silt runoff.

Post Mitigation geotech eval.

  • -48-72 hours post-injection, core samples are drilled and sent for testing.
  • -If soil stability meets required swell and PVR values, a swell letter is issued to your engineering team.
